Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 304 and 316L stainless steel enclosures?
+
Grade 304 is the standard austenitic stainless steel, offering good general corrosion resistance. Grade 316L includes 2% molybdenum, which significantly enhances resistance to chloride pitting corrosion — making it the mandatory specification for offshore, marine, coastal, food-grade and chemical applications. For general indoor industrial use, 304 is often sufficient. For outdoor, coastal or aggressive environments, 316L is always recommended.
Are stainless steel enclosures available with a food-grade finish?
+
Yes. We supply 316L stainless steel enclosures with Scotch-Brite (brushed) finish and electropolished finish for hygienic and food-grade applications. These finishes eliminate surface irregularities where bacteria could harbour, meeting food hygiene requirements. All fixings and hardware are also in 316L stainless for consistent hygiene specification.
Can stainless steel enclosures be ATEX certified?
+
Yes. ATEX Zone 1 and Zone 2 certified stainless steel enclosures are available in both 304 and 316L grades. 316L stainless ATEX enclosures are commonly specified for offshore oil and gas, chemical processing and pharmaceutical manufacturing hazardous areas. IECEx certification is available for international projects.
What IP ratings are available for stainless steel enclosures?
+
Our stainless steel enclosures are available in IP65, IP66 and IP68 ratings. IP66 is our most stocked rating. IP68 stainless steel enclosures (tested to 1m submersion) are available for applications requiring temporary or permanent immersion protection.
